Hexagenia Limbata “Hex” Mayfly on the Pere Marquette

July 1st, 2009 by mark

Hex fishing has been great the past week and into the weekend.  Masses of emergences and spinner falls brought some admirable fish to the net.  It’s always entertaining catching large trout on dry flies in the middle of the night.  The cooler weather has slowed activity this week but hex fishing should continue to be good for awhile, particularly on warm muggy nights.  Streamer fishing has also been very rewarding recently.  White and yellow Zoo Cougars and Articulated Sculpin patterns have caught some nice fish.  The river currently is up and discolored with the recent rain producing optimal streamer fishing conditions.
