Low & clear but good fishing. Tiny black stonefly
Pere Marquette River Fishing Report for March 29th, 2009
Water Conditions — Low water levels and clear, temps in the low 40’s but dropping.
Fishing Conditions — Good fishing this past week with an outlook of dependable fishing continuing for the upcoming week. Some fish have been on gravel but the best fishing is still in the holes. The fish this last week were pretty eager, some of the hot patterns have been Grau’s UV Stone, Little Fry (Jeff Hubbard) and pink nuke eggs with a red center. Have a good stock of small black stone patterns at this time of year because fish can become very tuned to the tiny black stonefly (Allocapnia granulate) hatch.
Tips — Spooking fish can become a problem with low clear water… move with more caution and stay future away from likely holding spots. Shallow fish can also become spooked by bobbers and indicators. Rigging too heavily will also turn fish off as they seem to sense the lead banging along the bottom. Low and clear is when many of us depend on floating lines for a top-down presentation.
